He Supreme Court ratified this Monday the decision not to apply the Amnesty Law to the crime of embezzlement for which the former vice president of the Generalitat was convicted Oriol Junqueras. The High Court considers that “there was a personal benefit of a financial nature” and, therefore, the rule cannot be applied to it.
The one who was also the leader of ERC presented an appeal along with other former councilors of that autonomous government: Raul Romeva, Dolors Bassa and Jordi Turull. Now, the Supreme Court has confirmed its refusal to apply the measure of grace to secessionist politicians.
Despite this judicial blow to the independence leaders, they still have the possibility of presenting an incident of annulment before the same court. And, if it does not succeed, they could bring an appeal for protection to the Constitutional Court.
