It seems evident that the position of the Government of Pedro Sánchez after the terrorist attack against Israel in October 2023 and Tel Aviv’s subsequent response by bombing Gaza has not been an example of balance, since it has taken the side of the Palestinian people by harshly criticizing the Hebrew Government. And that, of course, has had consequences: exports to Israel fell by 452 million between November 2023 and June 2024 compared to the same period before (November 2022 to June 2023). The data are eloquent: from November 2022 to June 2023, exports from Spain to Israel reached 1,529,154,584 euros, while from November 2023 to June 2024 the figure fell to 1,067,702,118 euros, which represented a drop of 452,452,466 euros. A decline of 29.5%.
In other words: Israel has closed us, to a large extent, the order tapand he no longer has us among his preferred clients. The bad thing is that the fact that Sánchez, instead of opting for prudence, took sides so blatantly has been paid for, above all, by Spanish companies. Vox presented a very clear parliamentary question to know the “commercial cost” of the “deterioration” of relations between Spain and Israel. And the Sánchez Government responded with the aforementioned figures, but blaming the international panorama: «Throughout 2023, the slowdown in Spanish exports could already be observed, largely due to the environment of uncertainty that led to a depreciation. of the shekel, harming European exports. And he tries to confuse by highlighting that before the conflict, exports were already falling by 3.44%. Yes, of course, but later that negative percentage grew to almost 30%. Those are big words and not the clumsy excuses of the Government. That “the continuity of the war over time and the risk of the conflict expanding into a regional war do not bode well for Israel’s economy in the current year” sounds like a pretext. The truth is that attacking Israel is costing us, as a country, very expensive. But of course, Pedro Sánchez does not pay for that.
