(CNN) – Ten Iranian militia members were killed early Sunday following a series of air and drone strikes in Syria’s Deir Ezzor province, according to a report by media activist group Euphrates Post.
According to Euphrates Post, the airstrikes targeted an air defense system operated by Syrian regime forces outside Deir Ezzor Military Airport. Additionally, three simultaneous airstrikes hit a headquarters of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in the village of Al-Hari, located in the Al-Bukamal countryside near the border with Iraq.
CNN cannot verify the report, but the group has been reliable in the past.
The fighter jets and drones involved in the attacks remain unidentified. The area has previously seen US and Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian militias. It is also on a route frequently used to ship weapons from Iran through Iraq to Syria.
Deir Ezzor, a province in northeastern Syria, is known for the presence of several Iranian-backed militias and is also home to several US facilities that were established during the conflict against the Islamic State (ISIS).
