On July 26, 2024, the long-awaited full version of “7 Days to Die” was released on Steam. This popular survival horror game by The Fun Pimps has been in early access for over a decade, building a dedicated fan base along the way. The 1.0 release marks a significant milestone for the game and introduces numerous new features and improvements.

The game, which combines elements of first-person shooters, survival horror, tower defense, and role-playing games, has seen continuous updates throughout its development. With the 1.0 release, players can now experience a more polished and complete version of the game. Some of the key features in this update include a major overhaul of the character creator, a rework of the armor system, new zombie variants, and an enhanced challenge system.

The character creator has been revamped, offering more detailed and defined models compared to the older versions. The armor system has been simplified, reducing the number of armor slots from nine to four, and introducing set bonuses for equipping all pieces of a specific armor set. Players will also notice different skins for various zombie models, although these changes are primarily cosmetic and do not affect gameplay.

Another significant addition is the return of the Burnt Forest Biome, which had been previously removed. This biome presents unique challenges and opportunities for players, including the risk of burn damage from the environment and burning zombies. The game’s developers have also slowed down trader progression to better sync with the overall game progression and introduced a more interactive challenge system that replaces the in-game journal.

In addition to these features, the game has received graphical and performance optimizations, making the experience smoother and more visually appealing. Players can now enjoy 16 new armor sets, each with unique effects, and predictable trader quests with new dialogues and voice actors.

The release of version 1.0 is not just limited to PC players. Console players on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X will also receive the update, although a few weeks later. However, the developers have decided not to support older consoles like Xbox One and PS4 due to technical difficulties. This update also brings crossplay functionality for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X players, although this feature is pending certification approval from Microsoft and Sony.

The full release of “7 Days to Die” also comes with some changes to the game’s availability on digital storefronts. The older versions will be delisted, and the game will no longer be available on Game Pass after April 2024.
