An elderly man died in the early hours of this Sunday, September 22, when falling from the window of a second floor of a residence in Palma. According to sources close to the investigation, the event occurred after 5:00 a.m., when the octogenarian tried to leave the residence by going down through a window and fell.

The Local Police have been mobilized to the scene in the first instance. SAMU 061 troops have also gone to the area.

The Homicide Group of the National Police has taken charge of the investigation. After the first investigations, the agents have been able to rule out that the octogenarian was locked in the room of the residence and the involvement of third parties in this tragic event.

According to the first investigations, The 85-year-old man tried to climb down from the window using several sheets that he had knotted. At one point he has fallen into the void. Workers at the residence have alerted the emergency services when they discovered the man’s body in the interior patio of the residence. Specifically, she was one of the caregivers who entered the room and found the window open and, upon looking out, detected the presence of the old man in the light well.

An ambulance from 061 went to the scene but the old man had already died. Crews from the Palma Fire Brigade and the National Police have also attended, opening an investigation to clarify what happened.

It was not the first time that the old man tried to leave the residence although he had never tried it by hanging out of the window. The residence staff had closed the window with a security system to prevent it from opening but it seems that the man managed to force it. Before attempting the descent, he had thrown several belongings to take with him.
