Rows of Coca-Cola brand trucks were seen leaving the municipality of Puente de Ixtla, Morelos, escorted by elements of the Army, after which it was reported the closure of the soft drink store in that municipality due to violence which is recorded there.
Approached by journalists, Eduardo Medina, president of the National Chamber of the Processing Industry (Canacintra) in the state of Morelos, reported the closure of the distributor of the company Fomento Economico Mexicano (FEMSA) in that area, which he attributed to the insecurity.
“Yes, unfortunately because of the security issue that has been affecting everyone,” he said.
The businessman regretted the decision by stating that It was a place that generated employment in the area and indicated that they are waiting to speak with the manager of the multinational company in the state to obtain data on the number of jobs that could have been lost.
“It is unfortunate, but I believe that it is something that must be worked on from the first day the Government is here, which is the security issue to continue insisting on investment,” he noted.
To the express question he said that It is not the only company that is planning to withdraw its investment and facilities from the entitybut he also noted that it is not an exclusive problem in Morelos, but also occurs in other entities in the country.
“Unfortunately we also know, here too, also in the state of Tamaulipas and several states due to security issues, and they are companies that really provide a lot of work in the states in which they are located.
Images of WhatsApp messages that were allegedly sent by the company to its employees and promoters are circulating on social networks, a determination that they announced will be indefinite.
“In order to guarantee the safety of our collaborators, and in response to the situation of insecurity that the community of Puente de Ixtla, in Morelos, is going through, at Coca-Cola FEMSA we have decided to temporarily suspend our operation in the different channels of the area. We will resume our activities once safety conditions are assured“, it reads.
On September 10, the units were captured leaving in a caravan from the distributor located in the North neighborhood, escorted by agents of the Army and the National Guard (GN) heading to Cuernavaca.
According to local media, so far this month alone, at least 8 incidents have been recorded against the company, including theft of units, merchandise or money, retention of drivers or kidnapping, and extortion. The last one, this weekend.
On social platforms, citizens ask Claudia Mazari Torres, Mayor of Puente de Ixtla, to take actions to guarantee security and jobs in the municipality.
