(CNN Spanish) – Presidential candidate Enrique Márquez considered that the sanctions announced by the United States government against 16 Venezuelan officials for “obstructing” the last elections will not contribute to solving the country’s political problems, but he stressed that he respects what each country decides.
“I do not believe in international interventions, I do not believe that the solution to the Venezuelan problem comes from outside beyond our borders, I believe that the solution comes from within and I call attention to the fact that all the efforts carried out outside the country can help us preserve peace,” he said at a press conference.
The former vice president of the National Electoral Council (CNE) added that the sanctions that other countries impose have not generally contributed to solving political problems, which is why he called for avoiding them as a discretionary mechanism that could generate more internal problems.
“What I do draw attention to is that the sanctions that affect the very structure of productivity, the economy, and national sovereignty, have to be censored by us, because they do not contribute anything to the construction of a political solution for Venezuela. ”, he noted.
The Government of Venezuela also rejected the new sanctions announced by the United States, considering them to be “illegitimate and illegal.” These come more than a month after the presidential elections in Venezuela, in which the United States has declared that, based on the minutes shown by the opposition and in the absence of evidence from the ruling party, Edmundo González is the winning candidate.
Regarding this, Márquez announced that he will request before the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) the annulment of the sentence issued by the Electoral Chamber that validated the results announced by the CNE that gave victory to President Nicolás Maduro.
Márquez regretted the decision of the presidential candidate of the Democratic Unitary Roundtable, Edmundo González, to go to Spain to receive political asylum, and denounced the pressures that led him to take it.
“Without a doubt, Venezuela needs all of us, all of us who want change, whose blood boils when we see injustice, to be here stepping on our territory and building alternative solutions,” he said.
