HoYoverse has confirmed that you don’t need a Game Pass subscription to play Genshin Impact on Xbox.
With this, the company resolves the confusion that arose shortly after the Xbox version was announced.
No Game Pass required
Initially, the product page in the Microsoft Store stated that Genshin Impact requires Xbox Game Pass Core or Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
That would have been a different approach than other free-to-play titles on the platform, such as Fortnite.
However, the information has now been changed. It now says: “Genshin Impact is a free game. You do not need to purchase Game Pass Ultimate or Core to play the game in multiplayer mode.”
“Players with a Game Pass Ultimate subscription can receive an in-game bundle at launch and in future version updates, and play Genshin Impact on Xbox Cloud Gaming.”
The Xbox version of Geshin Impact is scheduled to release on November 20, 2024 for Xbox Series X/S.
