‘Pimpinero: blood and gasoline‘, by director Andrés ‘Andy’ Baizis the first movie of the singer Juanes which has just been released in the Festival Toronto Film InternationalTIFF). But both make it clear that it will not be the last feature film in which the winner of dozens of Grammy Awards will participate.
“I would definitely like to do it again. I really liked the experience and I feel like after I’ve done this, I say, ‘Oh, okay, I think I can do it, I can do it a little better each time.’ Because that experience It was like… very strong,” he acknowledged. Juanes in one interview with EFE sitting next to Baiz.
“I would love to do it again. Obviously the music It’s my way. I will never leave musicbut I think that these types of expression complements are too enriching and I would love to one day be able to do more,” confesses the author of the album ‘La vida…es un ratico’.
It’s not the only one confession that the artist and Baizdirector and executive producer of series such as ‘Narcos’ (2015-2017) or ‘Griselda’ (2024), perform during the interview.
In ‘Pimpinero‘, Baiz tells the life of a family smugglers of gasoline who venture into Venezuela to take to Colombia gasoline at a discount price, facing a powerful rival group and the Venezuelan authorities.
Juanes gives life to Mosesthe oldest of three brothers. Ulises (Alberto Guerra) is the middle one and Juan (Alexander Speitzer) the youngest. The three form the Estrada clan, old-fashioned pimpineros.
“I always wanted it to be Mosesbut I asked Juanes that he also auditioned for Don Carmelo, who is one of the antagonistic characters of the movie. Imagine, asking someone so well known, multi-awarded, so talented, to make a ‘casting‘Imagine!”, he explained with a smile Baiz.
“He is such a beautiful human being, with so little ego, so authentic, so cute, so generous, that he even sends me two auditionsimagine. I mean, no, I can’t believe it. and the two auditions he did them very well and very different,” he added.

“Imagine. I got into YouTube to see how to do the ‘casting‘”, revealed the singer between the laughter of Baiz.

During filming, they organized a party as an exercise to unite the equipment faced with the hard weeks of work that lay ahead. And of course, Juanes He got on stage to sing some vallenatos.
But it was not the Colombian only who dazzled with his voice. Another of the actors in the feature film revealed himself to be an accomplished singer.
“Alexander Speitzer got on stage and sang a couple of boleros and a couple of rancheras. And he sings very well,” he stated. Baiz.
