The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Vieira, was appointed to lead the Brazilian delegation that will participate in the BRICS summit, in Kazan, Russia, from October 22nd to 24th.

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) canceled his trip after suffering a domestic accident this Saturday (19).

Mauro Vieira embarks on Sunday night (20). Lula will participate virtually in the session of heads of state from Brics member countries.

The head of the Executive should have left for Russian territory this Sunday, but was advised by his medical team not to undertake long-distance air travel. Despite the recommendation, doctors released Lula to carry out his other routine activities.

Lula was admitted to Hospital Sírio Libanês, in Brasília, on Saturday. According to the medical report, the president had a “blunt injury” to the back of his head.

During the summit, Lula intended to seek the support of Russia and China for the reformulation of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.

In his speech, the president was expected to speak about the need for reform at the UN in 2025, when the United Nations Charter will turn 80 years old.
