Several Mexican identification documents were found on the bus that crashed in Mississippi

Seven passengers died and dozens were injured, including 37 who were taken to hospitals when a bus heading to Mexico overturned on a Mississippi highway this Saturday due to tire failures.

Six of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the seventh died in a hospital, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, as reported by CNN.

The Highway Patrol also indicated that “several Mexican identification documents” were found on the bus involved in the accident in Mississippi.

The National Transportation Safety Board, in coordination with the Highway Patrol, has sent a team to conduct a safety investigation into the crash of the 2018 Volvo bus traveling between the U.S. and Mexico, which belongs to the company Autobuses Regiomontanos, according to Miranda Fernández, a spokesperson for the company.

The company has several locations in the U.S., and although it is unclear where the journey began, it is known that the bus was heading to Mexico, Fernández stated.

“All passengers go through the corresponding immigration checks and must present their passports or visas to enter Mexico or the United States,” the spokesperson told the network.

The tow truck driver, Keith Allison, reported that the bus ended up in a ditch on a Mississippi highway, and many passengers were ejected.

This incident occurs just days after four people died and ten others were injured when a van carrying passengers overturned on Wednesday on a highway near the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area in Texas.

The accident happened on Highway 287 in the city of Alvord, northwest of Dallas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) stated in a press conference that initial investigations suggest the driver lost control of the van, which rolled over multiple times.

Several people were ejected from the vehicle because they were not wearing seat belts. Three people, including the driver, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Eleven people were taken to hospitals, and one of them later died at the medical center. The van was travelling from Florida with the passengers but its final destination has not been established.
