On July 3, 2024, PlayStation announced that the demo for “Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess” is now available for both PS5 and PS4. This new game, developed by Capcom, offers players a blend of action and strategy set against a backdrop of rich Japanese folklore. The demo also includes rewards inspired by the classic game Okami, providing additional incentives for players to dive into the experience.

Game Overview

“Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess” revolves around the main character, Soh, who is tasked with protecting a divine maiden named Yoshiro. Yoshiro’s mission is to cleanse the world of demonic corruption, specifically from entities known as the Seethe. The game’s narrative is deeply rooted in Japanese traditions and mythology, adding a layer of cultural richness to the gameplay.

Gameplay Mechanics

The game is divided into two main phases: day and night. During the day, players explore the environment, rescue villagers, and prepare for the night battles. Villagers play a crucial role as they can be assigned various tasks and roles, such as combatants or supporters, to help protect Yoshiro during the night.

At night, the gameplay shifts to a more intense combat scenario. The Seethe attack in waves, and players must defend Yoshiro as she performs ritual dances to cleanse the environment. The strategic placement and commands of villagers are vital to success. The gameplay combines sword fighting with elements of traditional Japanese dance, making for a unique combat experience.

Visuals and Style

“Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess” is praised for its beautiful art direction and animation. The game uses bold and lush colors to create a fantasy-like atmosphere. The movements of the characters, especially during the dance sequences, are inspired by the ancient Japanese kagura dance, adding authenticity and depth to the visual storytelling.

Release and Platforms

The full game is set to be released on July 19, 2024. It will be available on multiple platforms, including PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. Players who pre-order the game can look forward to exclusive bonuses such as a mini artbook and special in-game items.
