San Lorenzo is unstoppable. After a turbulent week and numerous ups and downs, Iker Muniain will play for San Lorenzo. The Basque player will become the thirty-third European player to play in Argentina.

While many transfer deals in various markets have become complicated, Iker Muniain’s move to Argentine football has been one of the most complex in recent times. After countless negotiations and nearly at the end of the transfer window, the midfielder finally signed his contract with San Lorenzo and officially became the newest player for the club.

Boca travels to Mendoza, and Martínez has FINALIZED THE STARTING ELEVEN to play against Talleres de Córdoba in the Copa Argentina.

The Spanish midfielder has signed his contract until December 2025, and San Lorenzo shared the news on their social media with two videos and a post featuring a photo with club president Marcelo Moretti: “It’s an honor to have you at home, Iker. Boedo will win your heart,” reads the post alongside the highly anticipated image.

The former Athletic Bilbao player will now undergo a physical reconditioning process, working with a special trainer. After that, he will join the rest of the Azulgrana squad following their match against Vélez in the Professional League, scheduled for Saturday, September 14.

Now, the Basque will play in Argentina, but not for River, rather for San Lorenzo.

After completing his medical examination upon arrival in Argentina, Muniain only needed to sign the contract to become a San Lorenzo player, following multiple contractual negotiations. With this, the Basque player will become the thirty-third European to play in Argentine football. The last one was Italian Daniele De Rossi, who arrived from AS Roma to Boca in 2019.

After fifteen uninterrupted years wearing the Athletic Club de Bilbao jersey, Iker Muniain will now don the colors of San Lorenzo.

In two videos shared on their official channels, San Lorenzo formally introduced their new signing, making a reference to Isidro Lángara, a historical figure in the club’s history who arrived in Argentina in 1939 and shone for the team until 1943.

In one of the videos, Muniain mentioned his fellow countryman: “Basque, I haven’t been here long in Argentina, but I was told about you. They said you came fleeing from the war, leaving your family behind, that you were alone, unknown to everyone. I heard that when you got off the plane, they told you, ‘Go on, you’re in.’ And in your debut, you scored four goals. I heard that men in suits and ties applauded you, that you made the stands roar, and that you would go on to score 110 goals in total. That’s how you started building your legend. I know Boedo was once a land of Basques and their dairies, a long time ago. And Boedo will always be your home. Time has passed. You’re no longer alone. You’re not fleeing from anything. You’re no longer unknown. Now you rest in the history of San Lorenzo. And I understood from that, that we Basques have unfinished stories, but I’ll take care of that.”
