(CNN) –– The biggest names in the music industry arrived at the UBS Arena in New York for the MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs). And since the ceremony was delayed a day to avoid coinciding with the US presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, all eyes were on the red carpet this Wednesday night.

The annual awards show has a reputation for extravagant style, from Lady Gaga’s blood-soaked suit to the wedding dress Madonna wore to perform “Like a Virgin” at the first VMAs nearly 40 years ago.

Fashion watchers will hope that attendees known for their daring wardrobes, including host Megan Thee Stallion and nominees such as Billie Eilish, Bad Bunny and BlackPink’s Lisa, who is among the stars performing at the show, will be in keeping with the chance.
