The president of the PP Mallorca and the Consell, Llorenç Galmés, has met in Sineu with the mayors, spokespersons for the party popular in the towns of Pla and with the local board of the municipality itself to discuss the construction of the macro poultry farm of 750,000 chickens in this town in the interior of the island.

The president has explained that the PP opposes the development of the project because «we are here to improve the lives of Mallorcans and to support them in their demands.

Llorenç Galmés has defended that «there is no other way of doing politics “than by listening closely to the problems.” For this reason, he pointed out “we have called this meeting to sit together and those who are harmed can share their concerns.”

«The voice that matters is that of the citizensand in this case the neighbors, the town councils, the farmers and the associations have already spoken.

Galmés added that “we understand that These facilities would have a negative impact both in the well-being of the neighbors and in the territory in which it is established” and has referred to the existence of negative and unfavorable reports from the institutions, specifically the Department of Agriculture, the Sineu City Council and the Consell de Majorca.

In fact, the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Natural Environment of the Government has already made two unfavorable reports against this poultry farm.

To this we must add the opposition of the bulk of the business sector, from the Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises of Mallorca (Pimem), Unió de Pagesos and the Association of Agricultural and Ecological Production of Mallorca (Apaema) who consider that this project It would attack and destroy the primary tissue and affect more sectors.

This was stated recently by the president of Pimem, Jordi Mora; that of Unió de Pagesos, Joan Gaia, and that of Apaema, Miguel Coll.
“From the primary sector and from Pimem we join the opposition of this farm of 750,000 chickens,” said Mora, highlighting that Pimem recognizes the private initiative, but “not if the impact is so negative in the territory with effects on other sectors and the citizens.

Mora considered that the macro-farm project “is oversized, it is industrial and intensive and therefore it is the business model that Mallorca does not need” and encouraged political leaders to “act against the macro-project.”

For his part, Coll expressed that Apaema has presented a manifesto that criticizes the agrarian exploitation model of the macrofarm, detached from the agriculture of Mallorca, considering that it destroys the primary fabric.

In the words of Gaià, from Unió de Pagesos, this project does not help to give a realistic image of the primary sector. “Environmentally it is unsustainable, it is an industrial project, not an agricultural one,” he pointed out.

The Sineu City Council itself, governed by the popular Tomeu Mulet, who in the 28M elections obtained the absolute majority with seven councilors thus chaining his second term, opposes the construction of this macro-farm and has helped and guided the neighbors so that they can present allegations to the project.

On July 29, the City Council unanimously approved (PSIB-PSOE, Més per Mallorca and PP) a motion that showed the people’s rejection of this project and that urged the government team to present amendments as an institution, to highlight the negative environmental, health and social impacts that it can cause to neighbors.

This motion was also approved in Maria de la Salut and will be addressed by the municipal corporations of Llubí and Lloret de Vistalegre, with the aim of creating a common political and social front in the three municipalities closest to the Son Vanrell farm on which this macro poultry farm is planned.
