Their appearance and their particular way of moving, but above all their size and their great ability to survive in extreme situations, make them one of the insects that you absolutely want to see in your home.

However, precisely because of their resilience, it is not unusual to find them in the kitchen or bathroom, which are the rooms where they appear most frequently. Furthermore, increases in temperature associated with climate change have caused the life cycle of cockroaches to increase significantly.

For this reason, more and more people are looking for home remedies to get rid of cockroaches. If it is not possible to kill them, at least scare them away and prevent them from sneaking into any corner of our house.

Luckily, there are several tricks that we can try to prevent cockroaches from accessing our home. And most of them take the same starting point: the Achilles heel of these animals is that They can’t stand certain odors.

What is the smell that cockroaches can’t stand?

  • Cucumber.
  • Pine resin.
  • Aromatic spices such as rosemary, basil or oregano.

To permanently get rid of cockroaches, just place these products in nooks, crannies and corners where we have seen them, or where we know they can end up gaining access.

In particular, it is advisable to put them in the least visible areas of the bathroom and kitchen. Naturally, although some ingredients are more effective than others, it must be taken into account that the smell they give off may not be pleasant for people who live in the house. For this reason, citrus fruits such as lemon or spices such as bay leaf are usually the most used.

Other effective home remedies against cockroaches

Apart from aromatize your house with the products we have mentioned before, it can also be effective to clean it with a mixture of baking soda and sugar.

You can also add some aromatic products such as essential oils or ammonia to the water in the mop bucket. Of course: if you choose this route, make sure you rinse, rinse and dry the floor well before allowing children or pets to enter.
